New Beginnings

Hovland DockHovland DockThe Hovland Dock was built in 1905. While it sits in ruin, those who know and love it vow to protect it until the very end.

I love new beginnings, especially when they don't follow an end. This is my first keeper shot taken with my first DSLR camera. It was a Nikon D80 with a Nikkor 18-200mm lens. It was a gift from my husband for our anniversary, and our trip to The North Shore of Lake Superior was in celebration of the continuance of our love and commitment to each other. The camera symbolized both his love for me, and his belief in me. It was a big next step in my photography.

The photo says the same thing. The Hovland Dock is battered and worn from its years of being beaten down by the elements, but alas, it's still standing strong in parts. More so, it is still surrounded by beauty, and it is still leading somewhere. (Or at least it stands ready to welcome whatever come its way.) It too is surrounded by love. The locals have vowed to protect it for as long as it stands, and they have beautified the area surrounding it.

My newly redesigned website is another continuation of what came before it. It will stand as a symbol of my dedication to keep taking and sharing my pictures for as long as I am able to do so. As in life, some things are worth committing to ---and some things also become better with age. I think mostly of my many relationships that have withstood the test of time, and I dedicate this website to everyone who has shown me love, encouragement, and acceptance over the years. This website is for you.
